虽然世界上对于足球的起源还存在一定的争议,但现在中外学界已基本认为现代足球在英格兰诞生并发展起来.19世纪英国公学教育思想的转变和对体育运动重要性的重新认识,使得现代足球迎来了发展的良机.1863年成立的英格兰足球总会则为现代足球在英国的发展提供了良好的制度和组织保障.至此,足球在英国迎来了飞速发展的历史时期.虽然两次世界大战的爆发给英国足球运动的发展制造了很多困难,但是得益于足球的娱乐休闲特性和在社交方面的独特功能,同时也出于抚慰战争创伤的需要,英国足球在二战后迎来了发展的黄金时期.从此,足球在现代英国体育和英国人生活中的重要地位开始确立.

Although there are still some controversies about the origin of football in the world,nowadays,Chinese and foreign academics have basically recognized that modern football has been born and developed in England.The transformation of British public educational thought and the re-understanding of the importance of sports in 19 th century had made the modern football a good opportunity for development.The England Football Association founded in 1863 had provided a good institutional and organizational guarantee for the development of modern football in the UK.Thus,football had come to a historical period of rapid development in Britain.Although the two world wars had brought so many difficulties to the development of English football,its golden period of development started right after The World War II,which was due to the unique features of the entertainment and the social needs to soothe the trauma of the war.Since then,the important position of football has been established in modern British sports and life.
