福克纳的小说《喧哗与骚动》的叙述者之一杰生在价值观、道德观等原则上与作品的隐含作者有很大的分歧,被看作是不可靠的叙述者。然而叙述者的不可靠性是理解小说《喧哗与骚动》的关键之一。事实上,小说叙述者的可靠性和叙述风格极大地影响着读者对小说整体的反映。尽管杰生的不可靠叙述给读者的阅读造成了一定的障碍,它赋予了小说新的解读层面,引起了读者对小说文本和作者意图的极大关注,对于小说主题的表达具有重要意义。

Jason is an unreliable narrator in The Sound and the Fury for his breaking the norm of the implied author,but his unreliability is crucial to the understanding of the novel as a whole.In fact,the reliability of a narrator and the style he/she uses affect greatly the way readers respond to the novel.Although Jason's unreliability poses some difficulty to the reader,it foregrounds the novel's thematic significance as well as adds a new dimension to the story,arousing the reader's attention to the text and the authorial intention of the novel.
